Taking Quality Photos

Great photos are crucial for attracting buyers. You don't need professional equipment—just follow these guidelines.

Before You Start

  • Clean the project as much as practical
  • Clear clutter from around it
  • Choose a time with good natural light
  • Avoid harsh midday sun or dark conditions

Essential Shots

Include these angles as a minimum:

  • Front view (straight on)
  • Rear view
  • Both sides
  • Three-quarter front and rear angles
  • Interior/cockpit overview
  • Engine bay
  • Boot/storage areas
  • Underside if accessible

Detail Shots

Show the specifics:

  • Any rust or damage (be honest!)
  • Dashboard and instruments
  • Seats and upholstery
  • Wheels and tyres
  • VIN/chassis plate
  • Any unique features
  • Included spare parts

Technical Tips

  • Hold your phone/camera steady
  • Fill the frame with the subject
  • Keep the horizon level
  • Tap to focus on the important area
  • Take more photos than you need
  • Review before finishing

What to Avoid

  • Blurry or dark photos
  • Fingers over the lens
  • Distracting backgrounds
  • Heavy filters or editing
  • Photos that hide problems
Tip: Buyers appreciate honesty. Photos showing problems build trust—hidden issues discovered at viewing destroy it.
