Arranging Viewings Safely

Viewing a project in person is essential before buying. Here's how to arrange and conduct viewings safely.

Before the Viewing

  • Verify the seller's identity and contact details
  • Research the project—know what to look for
  • Tell someone where you're going and when
  • Share the address and seller's contact with a friend
  • Arrange to meet during daylight hours

What to Bring

  • A friend or family member
  • Your phone (fully charged)
  • A torch for dark corners
  • A magnet (to check for filler on vehicles)
  • A notepad and pen
  • Your checklist of questions

During the Viewing

  • Take your time—don't feel rushed
  • Inspect thoroughly, including underneath
  • Take plenty of photos and videos
  • Ask all your prepared questions
  • Trust your instincts

Location Safety

  • For first meetings, suggest a public location if possible
  • If visiting a private address, stay alert
  • Keep your phone accessible
  • Don't carry large amounts of cash to a first viewing
  • If anything feels wrong, leave

After the Viewing

  • Take time to review your notes and photos
  • Research any issues you discovered
  • Get quotes for work needed before committing
  • Don't feel pressured to decide immediately
Important: Never pay a deposit or full amount without viewing the project in person first, no matter how good the deal seems.
